Chapter 1 Meeting the Palm Robot 15
Palm V
How do you follow up such a runaway hit as the Palm III family? By adding
an integrated, rechargeable battery that tops off whenever the PDA is sitting
in the cradle. The Palm V also sported a sexy, brushed aluminum case design
(check out Figure 1-5) that made it incompatible with earlier docking cradles,
but made it a hit with executives around the world. The Palm V is also quite
easy to find on the used market thanks to its immense popularity.

Some believe
the Palm V
was the most
stylish device
ever released
by Palm.
Palm VII
The Palm VII came to the market in 1999. The end result of a long development
program to deliver wireless email and limited web surfing in a handheld de-
vice, the Palm VII never proved to be very popular. It was eventually replaced
by the i705 in 2002. In its heyday, though, it was essentially a Palm III with an
integrated wireless modem. See Figure 1-6 for a look at the Palm VII with its an-
tenna extended.
