Design of experimental liquid-metal facilities 87
Thermal power of 1MW. A fuel pin simulator consisting of an electrically heated pin bundle
l
is adopted for this aim.
An innovative steam generator bayonet tube bundle is adopted as heat sink, named heavy
l
liquid mrtal-pressurized water cooled tube (HERO), which adopts pressurized water as sec-
ondary coolant.
Concerning the flow path here conceptualized (see Fig. 3.2.1), LBE flows through the
fuel pin simulator moving upward and then through the riser, in which gas is injected
to promote gas-enhanced circulation; reaches the separator in the upper part; and
moves downward through the steam generator (HERO). This requirement is typical
for almost any heavy liquid-metal pool-type reactor.
