system, neither affecting the operation of the other. Thus, the critical
load will give the same performance as shown in Fig. 6.2.
The Uniblock system in Fig. 6.2 is also available using the water-
cooling system of the building thus reducing the system size and air-
conditioning load and allowing the system to be situated in some unusual
areas.
Parallel redundancy is available and a typical circuit is illustrated in
Fig. 6.4—in this case with static switches between the various paral-
leling systems adjacent to the loads.
Generator/Clutch/Machine
There are available a number of rotary systems employing diesel/clutch
configurations and we detail their operation below.
Our first example of close coupled diesel/clutch/generator is provided
by the system illustrated in Fig. 6.5 as produced by Eurodiesels Ltd.
Under normal mains operation power fed into the machine rotates the
synchronous machine at 1125 rpm. Coupled to this machine is the field
