will be remedied that day. Then ask the inspector to come back the next day. A safety
violation is another story and the inspectors may shut the project down immediately.
This should never happen unless some extreme event has occurred that could not have
been stopped with due diligence. See Chapter 5 for more details on safety concerns for
a project.
TESTING
Some municipalities require that some form of controlled inspections take place for a
variety of project components. This means that certain areas of the project have to be
properly tested. Review Chapter 3 for details on testing procedures. The Building
Department may require the following tests:
1. Borings
2. Test pits
3. Pilings
4. Underpinning
5. Soil bearing pressure
6. Welding
7. High-strength bolts
8. Smoke tests
9. Spray-on fire proofing
10. Concrete design mix
11. Concrete test cylinders
12. Sprinkler test (hydrostatic)
13. Emergency Lighting
14. Emergency Power
In addition, the local fire department may require that the following be tested or
checked:
1. Smoke purge
2. Fire alarm system
3. Fuel storage
4. Elevator recall
5. Fire department key for elevator operation
6. Stair pressurization
7. Compartmentation
8. Storage of hazardous material and gases
9. Fire Pump
