As illustrated in Figure 10.19, once ozone enters solution, it follows two basic modes
of reaction: direct oxidation, which is rather slow and extremely selective, and autode-
composition to the hydroxyl radical. Autodecomposition to the hydroxyl radical is cat-
alyzed by the presence of hydroxyl radicals, organic radicals, hydrogen peroxide, UV
