diagram activity by activity as we move to the right checking that the precedences in
the diagram are consistent with the project information. Figure 9.17 shows the first
part of the AOA diagram up to activity C. Activities A and B both start from Node 1
(the start of the project). Activity C starts after Activity A. You should be able to see
why we have shown the B and C arrows going into Node 3. Eventually Activity H will
be shown on the arrow coming out of Node 3 since H is dependent on both B and C.
The complete AOA diagram for this project is shown in Figure 9.18. You should
check the diagram carefully to see that all the dependencies are consistent with the
project information given. Note also that some of the arrows have been highlighted
to show the critical path through the network. In addition, we have added time
information into each node as is usual with the AOA diagram. So, Node 3 for
example shows that at this time Activities A,B,C are complete and will take 9 weeks
to complete (the first of the two times shown). This is the earliest finish time, EFT,
for this part of the network. The second figure of 12 shows the latest finish time,
LFT. These times are obtained from the completed network diagram with the usual
forward pass to obtain the EFTs for each node and then a backward pass to obtain
the LFTs. We see again from Node 7 that the project will take 26 weeks to complete.
