                 Perhaps this is the most important part of tuning up
                     a boiler—you have to do it until it’s right.
                     A proper tuneup requires follow-up checks
                  and readjustments until it is proven satisfactory.
                    A quick brushoff often won’t work and could
                              actually be dangerous .

                     The important elements of boiler perfor-
                mance optimization:
                •    Be Scientific
                •    Identify dollar losses connected with per-
                     formance so that reasonable judgments can
                     be made about investments of time and re-
                     sources.
                •    Use good instruments
                •    Do regular spot checks
                •    Set allowable limits for performance

                                                                    original design. Records of conditions at these loca-
                                                                    tions are necessary to establish oxygen, combustibles
                                                                    and pollution levels. In this case indications are that
                                                                    the burners need adjustment because oxygen and CO
                                                                    are out of range for good and efficient operations.
