             Activity Summary Table.

             Business Benefits and Ramifications

The meaning and impact of DG becomes fully evident at this point. The change management activity
needs to parallel these tasks, as the need for communication, training, and resistance management are
             paramount.
             Approach Considerations

This activity is in parallel with all of the other activities in this phase. Perhaps the biggest consideration
to address is whether there is a PMO in place at your organization. The PMO is a tremendous vehicle to
insert DG tasks into ongoing programs. It is easier to sell, monitor, and prove value. We are assuming
an effective PMO, since many organizations have PMOs in name only.
For each program or project, the DG implementers need to prepare the nature, extent, and style of
governance. For example, a business intelligence effort may focus governance on using the correct
data terms and tools. An MDM project will require oversight of data quality and business process
changes in addition to data standards.

Activity: Confirm Effectiveness and Operation of DG Organization

Any endeavor requires verification that it is actually working. Regardless of the amount of planning,
DG will almost certainly require adjustments in processes, intensity, or structure. This set of tasks is
grouped together to present the various areas to be assessed as data governance is operating.
