Venturimeter
Digital gas flow meter
Fig. 11.14 Venturimeter used before the gas entry into the inlet manifold.
venturimeter used to measure flow rate of producer gas and digital gas flow
meter. A suitable ball valve was provided at the entrance of the carburetor
for adjusting the producer gas flow rate. Similarly, another port of the carbu-
retor is connected to the air line, which also has a ball valve and orifice plate.
Measurement of air and gas flow rates gives an indication of the air-fuel
ratio. The downstream of the venturimeter was connected to the carburetor
and the gas accelerates with the air as it is introduced into the carburetor.
Finally, the data measured for the HOME-PG with and without fuel oil
(FO) addition were compared to that of the diesel-producer gas operation.
11.7 RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
This section presents fuel and engine experimental investigations conducted
in two phases. First phase mainly presents factors affecting the fuel oil pro-
duction. In the next phase, experiments were carried out on a CI engine
test setup converted to operate in dual, tri-fuel modes using diesel-PG,
HOME-PG, and HOME+FO-PG combinations, respectively. The second
phase mainly discusses the effect of combustion chamber shapes on the
performance combustion and emission characteristics of diesel engine op-
erating on dual, tri-fuel modes were investigated. Measurements were made
for different loading conditions and results obtained were discussed in the
following sections.
