polarize the fluorine atom in Zonyl8740, and polarity of fluorinated chains is
less than that of hydrocarbon chains, which makes the hydrophobic effect of
fluorinated chains stronger than that of hydrocarbon chains and keeps fluori-
nated chains oleophobic (hydrocarbon compounds). Hence as Zonyl8740
concentration increases, fluorine-containing groups on the solid surface grow
and σ water , σ n2hexadecane , and σ kerosene increase—i.e., hydrophobicity and oleo-
phobicity are enhanced.
