Perfect gases 5

                              representing the perfect gas equation.
The locations of the lines from (a) and
                              (b) are indicated on the surface.

The partial pressure of component A divided by the total pressure is given by:
           p A/p total=(n AR T/V)/(n totalR T/V)=n A/n total

The quantity n A/n total is known as the mole fraction of component A, and is denoted
x A(Topic D1). The advantage of this quantity is that it is easily calculated, and allows
ready calculation of partial pressures through the relation:
           p A=x n p total
