Discharge curves for the 1200 Ah reinforced cylindrical battery at the 2000-hour (ca. 500 mA) and
the 1000-hour rates (ca. 1.0 A) are shown in Fig. 14.71. The trailing knee in these discharge curves
has been attributed to electrolyte starvation at the end of the discharge. These batteries effectively
demonstrate the ability of the lithium/carbon monofluoride system to provide very high specific
energies and energy densities, in these low rate designs.
