Ghosh et al. [122] reported the analysis of saccharides using isatoic anhydride as a derivatizing reagent.
The reagent reacts with the primary hydroxyl group in monosaccharides to form mono-anthranilate
derivatives (Fig. 2.32). The derivatives were separated using RP-HPLC and monitored at 254 nm.

Benzoic Anhydride Application: Determination of Monosaccharide in Galactosaminoglycan [118]
Galactosaminoglycan obtained from human aorta was dissolved in 2 M TFA and heated at 100 °C for 9
h. The hydrolyzed mixture was lyophilized and 0.5 ml of pyridine containing 10% (w/v) benzoic
anhydride and 5% (w/v) 4-dimethylaminopyridine were added. The solution was heated at 37 µC for 90
