Safety, Shutdown and Protective Circuits and Devices 383

effects must be recorded. It is usually possible to continue through the lines of logic
on the understanding that the exercise will need to be repeated once the issue or
                  issues have been resolved.
Software aids are available to assist the commissioning engineer, such as logic
simulators, which by allowing a virtual input of the particular cause indicate the
                  resultant effects, intended or otherwise.

                  SAFETY, SHUTDOWN AND PROTECTIVE CIRCUITS
                  AND DEVICES
It is important to prove these circuits and devices before starting up the system. This
should include relevant fire and gas monitoring, active firefighting and pressure relief
and flaring systems, where the system may contain hydrocarbons or pressure vessels,
                  or both.
