Social Media Training

          The Motivational Mindset
          ■ While many people are fluent in computer and social
networking language and practices, do not assume that
            everyone is.
          ■ Don’t even assume that everyone knows exactly what a blog is
            or how it works.
          ■ Don’t tell employees you’ve created a “platform for
synchronous communications.” Tell them you’ve created “an
area in our site for real-time communication, which includes
videoconferencing.” Offer tours and tutorials to ensure that
everyone understands the workings and benefits of these new
            options.
          ■ If you see that someone is familiar with blogs, don’t assume
that that person will also be familiar with everything about
them or every related term, such as blogosphere (the total
sphere of blogs online) or blogroll (a linked list of bloggers in
            the sidebar of a blog).
          ■ Send links to tutorials or offer training sessions. Don’t make
the mistake of only involving those who already have a
working knowledge of online networking systems. Most
people will learn quickly with a little practice, and someone
with the least knowledge may easily surprise you and become
            a strong, effective online presence.
          ■ Even those who know how to use the system technologically
will have questions about etiquette and process. Keep an open
            dialogue.

          Motivational Phrases
          ■ “Do you know what a troll is and how to handle one? Do you
know that a lurker is not necessarily a bad thing? If these
terms conjure images of shadowy figures under bridges and
behind trees, or if these questions seem completely out of
