         CAUSES OF WEB DEFLECTION

Several factors may contribute to web deflection and must be exam-
ined before, during, and after taking web deflection measurement. Some
of these factors include, but are not limited to:

           • compressor support—grouting conditions
           • anchor bolts—torque value
           • sole plate and chock adjustment and torque
           • shim packing, alignment of any compressors, distance pieces, and
             cold supports
           • rod run-out, proper frame alignment
           • main bearings, clearances
           • good lubrication, oil analysis
           • compressor load, overload
           • soil conditions, fill

All of these factors, either solely, together, or in any combination, will
contribute to web deflection and must be addressed and corrected before
