                   10.2.2.7 Velocity

Velocity is a measure of output produced by a software project team during an iteration cycle (i.e., the ratio
of amount of product developed to effort consumed). Velocity is an indicator of team capacity and a measure of
productivity and progress. Velocity can be measured using story points or features points developed per person-day
                   of effort consumed.

                   10.2.2.8 Historical Velocity

Historical velocity (also known as “yesterday’s weather”) describes the team’s velocity during recent, previous
iterations. It reflects the fully loaded capability of the team’s resources including the impacts of defects found and fixed
and other work demands. Using yesterday’s weather is a reliable way of estimating the team’s current iteration capacity.

Yesterday’s weather uses recent performance as an indicator for likely future performance. For example, if a
team completed 30 story points last week, then forecasting 30 story points as an estimate for progress this week is
probably more valid than using the 45 story points per week, which was estimated at the beginning of the project.

                   10.2.2.9 Online Collaboration Tools

Online collaboration tools can be used so that those who are remote from the team can participate in meetings,
share documents and work in progress, visit the project website, and view project information such as information
                   radiators and yesterday’s weather.
