                     The sizes of shredded plastics are from 5 to 10 mm. The motor that
                drives the shredder is approximately 30 hp and the shredded plastics are col-
                lected in bags to be further reprocessed or sold. Figure 5.13 shows a horizon-
                tal axis shredder used for rigid plastics waste. The end products of shredding
                are irregularly shaped pieces of plastic depending on the required final prod-
                uct and the type of industry that will use them. The shredded plastics could
                undergo further washing to ensure cleanliness, especially as the shredded
                pieces are more easily cleaned when they are in small sizes than in large
                ones (Lardinos and van de Klundert, 1995).
