work to your advantage because they subconsciously see a cartoon or graphic image,
which often attracts them because of fond childhood memories. Once they get to the
image, they will likely read the text to see what it is about. It is then that you hook them

PUTTING YOUR BRAIN TO WORK: ACTIVITY
Obtain a copy of a participant workbook from any program that you or your organization has produced or
purchased. Using the information you just read, do an analysis of the material to see what improvements
or changes you night make.
What is your immediate reaction to the appearance of the material when you look at the cover or thumb
through contents?
What do you like about the material?
What changes might you make?
JOB AIDS
There are many ways to aid learners during and following a training session. One eco-
nomical means is to develop a job aid that can be used during training and as a refer-
ence by participants later. These reinforcements to learning come in many forms and
can range from a single-sided page or poster to a guide kept on a bookshelf or in a desk.
They offer step-by-step checklists for the procedures of a given process or task. Common
examples of job aids include the following.
Posters
Posters show information, models, or diagrams of processes. They can be displayed in
training rooms and the workplace for easy access.
Pocket Guides
Small pocket-sized reminders of key steps, models, procedures, or important informa-
tion are often given so that learners will have an easily accessible resource in their cars,
on their desks, in a purse, or in a pocket.
