B16 Pistons

CRANK OPERATED HYDRAULIC PUMP PISTONS

Piston may be made from aluminium or cast iron, with
sealing usually by metallic piston rings. The minimum
strength of the piston parts should be as for IC engines.

Some simple robust low-speed designs use a plain, solid
cylindrical piston operating through a gland bush.

AIR AND GAS COMPRESSOR PISTONS

Piston materials may be aluminium or cast iron. Some common arrangements are shown below. Minimum strength of

Double-acting compressor piston (lubricated) with Double-acting compressor piston (non-lubricated)
plain piston rings with PTFE sealing rings and bearer bands

Two-stage compressor piston (lubricated) Two-stage compressor piston (non-lubricated) with
PTFE sealing rings and bearer bands

Simple single-stage piston (lubricated) Built-up piston for high-pressure compressor
