Fours can be quite skilled at mediating conflicts with others.
People find Fours easy to talk to about emotional concerns,
adept at identifying the complex issues involved, and intuitive
about what it will take for the parties involved to reach a satis-
fying resolution.
Influence Others
When Fours are effective influencers, it is usually a result of their
thoughtfulness, deep introspection, strong relationships, values
orientation, and deep commitment to the issues they believe are
important. When Fours are less influential, it is because they are
too intense, overly emotional, or overly insistent on their posi-
tions, or because they overemphasize values at the expense of
practical concerns.
Using E-mail as a Developmental Stretch
In the following e-mail, Althena informs her coworkers that she
will miss a conference call.
Hi Everyone,
First, I’d like to let you know I’m healing well from my
surgery. It didn’t quite go as I had hoped, and I ended up
needing a transfusion and had a couple of other postsurgical
complications. I was home in two days, and out taking a
walk on the fourth. I’m feeling quite good considering every-
thing; the pain is manageable, and now and then I forget and
have to remind myself to slow down and not do too much.
That said, there are doctor’s appointments, including
Monday at 10:00. I remember our discussion about moving
to this time, but it’s the only time of the day I’m unable to
participate. I want to say thank you to all of you who sent me
e-mails and cards inquiring about my health.
