columns and label them Head, Heart, and Gut. For each deci-
sion, write down how you used that center to make that
particular decision. Next, review all three decisions and look
for patterns related to how you used your head, heart, and
gut. Finally, assess how you could use each center better to
make optimal decisions.
• The next time you need to make a decision and have already
collected the relevant information, ask yourself: What does
my head tell me to do? What does my heart say? What does
my gut tell me? If you have the same response to each ques-
tion, you probably have an optimal decision, as long as you
have also factored in the organizational culture, the organiza-
tional decision-making authority structure, and the context of
the decision. If you have different answers to two or more of
the questions, ask yourself why. Your answer will give you
excellent guidance regarding what to do next.
