When the instrument is set over a point, a plumb bob should be hung at its center of rotation
from a hook or through a hole usually provided. The point of the plumb bob should be just above
the mark, and an amateur may have to move the tripod repeatedly before it is placed right.
If the instrument has a shifting base so that it can slide on the tripod, setting up over a point is
greatly simplified.
