5. Improvement in transmission at TI was obtained when glass
was distilled through porous filters to remove particulate mate-
rial and aluminum wire was added to getter oxide impurities.
6. An all-quartz closed system was developed at AMI that com-
bined reactant purification, compounding glass, and casting
all into one operation under vacuum. Optical quality was
excellent.
