Chapter 5 Brushed direct-current motors 163
5.5 Summary
Direct-current brushed motors are widely used in the servo-drive industry due to their
simplicity of operation and reliability. This chapter has reviewed the basic electrical and
mechanical relationships of the four main types of d.c. brushed motor, together with
their control. The pulse width modulated servo amplifier have been considered in detail.
In addition, the problems of regenerative energy have been addressed, together with
methods used to ensure that damage is not caused to the semiconductors with the
power amplifier.
