Engineering Design with SOLIDWORKS® 2018 Top-Down and Sheet Metal Parts
Project 7 - Top-Do Assembly Modeling and Sheet Metal Parts
Project Objective
Create three BOX configurations utilizing the Top-down assembly approach. The Top-
down approach is a conceptual approach used to develop products from within the
assembly. Major design requirements are translated into sub-assemblies or individual
components and key relationships.
Model Sheet metal components in their 30 formed state. Manufacture the Sheet metal
components in a flatten state. Control the formed state and flatten state through
configurations.
Create the parameters and equations utilized to control the configurations in a Design
Table.
On the completion of this project, you will be able to:
• Set Document Properties and System Options.
• Create a new Top-down assembly and Layout sketch.
• Choose the proper Sketch plane.
• Insert Sheet Metal bends to transform a solid part into a sheet metal part.
• Use the Linear Pattern feature to create holes.
• Insert IGES format PEM® self-clinching fasteners.
• Use the Component Pattern feature to maintain a relationship between the holes and
the fasteners.
• Create Global Variables.
• Create and Edit Equations.
• Insert a Sheet Metal Library feature and Forming tool feature.
• Address and understand general sheet metal manufacturing considerations.
• Insert Geometric relations.
