ake no mistake—the hiring company will spend both
Mtime and money preparing to interview you. Your
résumé will be reviewed by people within the company, as
well as possibly by outside consultants. Many companies
conduct background checks, and almost all will check out
your Internet presence. See Chapter 8 for information on how
to protect your image, including on the Web. Let’s take a look
now at some of the people who will investigate you for the
hiring company before you even set foot in the door.

WHO WILL INTERVIEW YOU FIRST?

As noted earlier, there are many types of interviewers. Some
have little experience, and others are well trained. You prob-
ably will interview with several people within a company
