Chapter 5 Checking Out the Robot 101

                                       3. Find the PocketPPRK.zip file on the CD-ROM (or at www-2.cs
                                          .cmu.edu/~pprk/programs.html) Unzip the archive
and install pprk.pdb and PToolboxLib.prc on your PDA.
                                       4. Find the PocketC icon in the Application Launcher and run it.
                                       5. Select pprk from the list of compiled programs and tap the Execute
                                          button.
You will see buttons for seven robot programs. Tapping a button will cause
the robot to execute the related program. Here’s what the programs do:
❏ Wanderer The robot wanders around, avoiding obstacles.
❏ Wall Follow The robot follows a nearby wall.
❏ Spin Follow The robot follows a wall—while spinning.
❏ Leap Frog The robot follows a wall in a leap frog fashion.

❏ Holonomic The robot demonstrates its ability to move in any
direction without turning, using three wheels that are not aligned.
❏ Memo The robot executes a pattern stored as text commands in
the memo pad. A number of sample patterns are included in the
                                           PocketPPRK.zip file.

❏ Scribble The robot follows a pattern that is doodled on the
                                           PDA’s screen.

                         Software for the BrainStem

Your BrainStem controller will not use the same software files as the Pontech
SV203. BrainStem is an Acroname product, so most of the software that is
available will be from Acroname. Also, because the BrainStem supports many
different platforms, you can find software for Windows, Mac, and Palm OS
devices, just to name a few.
