Chapter 4 Using Palm VIIs and Handspring Visors 75

                         Parts List

These parts should come in the cable kit from Acroname. If, however, you are
trying to roll your own, you’ll need to find these parts to build a Visor cable:

❏ Three conductor flat cables with crimps (available from
                                           www.mouser.com; cable and crimps separate).
❏ Molex three conductor housing (available from www.mouser.com).
❏ Visor hot sync connector kit (www.atlconnect.com/thirdparty/
                                           handspring/pricing/connectors.htm, part #500835).
❏ Sonic screwdriver for putting it all together. If you don’t have
a sonic screwdriver, you’ll need a soldering iron and solder.

Soldering the Connector and Printed Circuit Board

The kit contains a black connector, shown here, that provides the connection to
                                    theVisor.Theconnectorhaseightmetalconnectorpins.Oneachsideofthemetal
                                    pinsareplasticpinsthatwillbeusedtoaligntheconnectortothecircuitboard.

The Visor connector contains a printed circuit board with a small notch cut
into each of the short sides, as shown next. Also, each connection on the board
shows a printed number just to the left of the connection. These numbers will
come in handy later when we solder the connector pins to the circuit board.
(They also come in handy when you are trying to remember how many
