        Performing Teams










             eams—groups whose members have common goals and
       T     some degree of interdependence in achieving these goals—

             are the foundation of contemporary organizations. As a
        result, the ability to create and Lead High-Performing Teams is
        essential to every leader’s success. All teams—senior teams, man-
        agement teams, task forces, steering committees, matrix teams,
        project teams, and intact work teams—require their leaders to cre-
        ate team-based structures and processes that support a skilled and
        motivated workforce in delivering seamless, high-quality goods
        and services to their customers.
           Having the ability to Lead High-Performing Teams means being
        skilled in the following seven competency components (see Fig-
        ure 6.1):


        1. Providing team leadership
        2. Creating a team vision
        3. Attracting and developing team talent
        4. Designing a team architecture
        5. Establishing effective team processes
        6. Building a team culture
        7. Assuring quality products and services
