EDITING FOR MOVING PICTURES
Capturing your field footage to the Scratch Disk is one of the first, if
not one of the most important, steps in the NLE digital video editing
process. The next step is where the editing itself truly begins: moving
clips into a sequence.
The Timeline
Select File > New > Sequence to create a new sequence. Note the
following critical areas of the timeline:
● The Name Tab. This tab, located in the upper left-hand corner

of the sequence, shows the name of the sequence, the current
playback head position (here at “01:00:01;14” indicating the
134 playback head is 1 second and 14 frames from the start of the
sequence), and the “Render Quality Button,” which is
discussed later.
● The Timeline has at least one video and two audio layers present.

Video clips are added to the timeline to create sequences.
Clips, once captured or imported may be dragged directly
from the browser into a sequence. Clip placement within a
sequence is determined by two parameters: location of the
“playback head” and the designated destination layers. If you
have only one video layer and two audio layers, by default
