supply voltage for battery-powered equipment is that the number of cells in the
battery can be reduced, possibly to a single cell. This will significantly reduce the
weight of battery-powered equipment as well as extend the usable time between
battery chargings.
Lower supply voltage and smaller parasitic capacitances make dynamic logic
circuits less reliable and noise problems may require careful design of the inter-
connection networks. Finally, it is noteworthy that the performance of integrated
circuits was earlier dominated by circuit density and chip area. Now, the dominat-
ing factors are communication distances and power dissipation.
