• Hinge: Limits the movement between two components to
one rotational degree of freedom. It has the same effect as I ~ j Universal Joint
adding a Concentric mate plus a Coincident mate. Mate alignment:
• Gear: Forces two components to rotate relative to one
another around selected axes.
• Rack Pinion: Provides the ability to have Linear translation of a part; rack causes
circular rotation in another part, pinion, and vice versa.
• Screw: Constrains two components to be concentric and adds a pitch relationship
between the rotation of one component and the translation of the other.
• Universal Joint: The rotation of one component (the output shaft) about its axis is
driven by the rotation of another component ( the input shaft) about its axis.

-;Q~ Mates reflect the physical behavior of a component in an assembly. In this project,
the two most common Mate types are Concentric and Coincident.
Quick Mate:
Quick Mate is a procedure to mate components together. No command (click Mate from
the Assembly CommandManager) is required. Hold the Ctrl key down, make your
selections. Release the Ctrl key, and a Quick Mate pop-up menu is displayed below the
context toolbar. Select your mate and you are finished.
