Engineering Design with SOLIDWORKS® 2018 Extrude and Revolve Features
Project Summary
You are designing a FLASHLIGHT assembly that is cost effective, serviceable and
flexible for future design revisions. The FLASHLIGHT assembly consists of various
parts. The BATTERY, BATTERYPLATE, LENS and BULB parts were modeled in this
project.
This Project concentrated on the Extruded Boss/Base feature and the Revolved Boss/Base
feature. The Extruded Boss/Base feature required a Sketch plane, Sketch profile and End
Condition (Depth). The BATTERY and BATTERYPLATE parts incorporated an
Extruded Boss/Base (Boss-Extrude!) feature. A Revolved feature requires a Sketch
plane, Sketch profile, Axis of Revolution and an Angle of Rotation.
You also utilized the Extruded Boss/Base, Extruded Cut, Fillet, Chamfer, Revolved Cut,
Revolved Thin-Cut, Shell, Hole Wizard, Dome and Circular Pattern features.
You addressed the following Sketch tools in this project: Sketch, Smart Dimension, Line,
Rectangle, Circle, Tangent Arc and Centerline. You addressed additional Sketch tools
that utilized existing geometry: Add Relations, Display/Delete Relations, Mirror Entities,
Convert Entities and Offset Entities. Geometric relations were utilized to build symmetry
into the sketches.
The BATTERYPLATE utilized various Mold tools to develop the Core and Cavity
tooling plates required in the manufacturing process. Plastic parts require Draft. The
Draft Analysis tool determined areas of positive and negative draft. Features were
modified to accommodate the manufacturing process.
Practice these concepts with the project exercises. The
