Return Period (Frequency). The design storm return period, or frequency, is selected by
the engineer and is the statistical period of years that must elapse to produce the most severe
design storm once in that period of time. The theory is that the worst storm that would ever
be expected to occur once in 100 years will be much more severe than the worst storm that
would occur once in two years.
