A PFCI with NbTi CIC SC was designed to operate at a current of 52 kA in
a magnetic field of 6.4 T (Fig. 5.26). The NbTi strands and the cable of the PFCI
were fabricated in the Russian Federation.
The cable jacketing into a stainless-steel square tube was performed in the
EU, as well as the manufacture of the mock-up of a low-resistance electrical
joint between SC lengths, whose design verification was one of the objectives
of the testing [12]. Joints like this are supposed to be used for all ITER NbTi
conductor connections.
