■ “I realize that the promotion you’re considering is a major step,

Let’s talk about what your new responsibilities would be.”

                          Time Management

          The Motivational Mindset
          ■ Time is money—to you, your company, your clients, and your
            employees.
          ■ Compressed time, poorly managed time, and not enough time
lead to errors, lost opportunities, and stress.
          ■ The speed and accessibility of communication creates a sense
of urgency that is not always accurate or helpful. Don’t drop
everything for each call, e-mail, and text message that comes
in or think that every communication has to be returned the
second it pops through. Manage your messages.
          ■ Planning saves time—yours and others’. Plan and help others
plan to achieve long- and short-term goals and sometimes just
            to get through the day.
          ■ Time-management tools aren’t in everyone’s toolbox. Don’t
assume that all employees know how to plan effectively. Offer
            guidance, seminars, and resources.
          ■ Help employees anticipate the unexpected. Establish a
mindset where the unexpected won’t have the power to
            wreak havoc.
          ■ Controlling interruptions is key to time management. Respect
others’ uninterrupted time and request your own.
          ■ Setting and synchronizing priorities is essential to good time
            management.
          ■ Understand whose crisis is your crisis.
