include the carry bit in the addition. The sign-extension is released, which ends
the truncation of the output. In the third step, the original sign-bit arrives to the
input of the leftmost stage, where the control signal still is deactivated. Finally, in
the last step, the sign-extended input bit arrives to the leftmost stage, where the
control signal is still deactivated. The input bit from the rightmost stage is cur-
rently a sign-extended result from that stage.
