When someone does something mean to you, it’s about
them. When they do it another time, it’s usually about you.
Let me clarify: when people do something annoying over and
over and over again, it’s about you, because you are allowing
that. What are you doing to reward their behavior? There must
be something. Look for that and try to ask yourself how you
are rewarding their mean actions. It’s difficult, but we can
always do it when we know where to start. We begin with
ourselves. Changing your behavior is the most effective thing
you can do to better deal with difficult people, as well as all
other kinds of people, for that matter.
