Diesel power plant
7.1 Section introduction—Piping and equipment
This section provides the reader a basic understanding of the fundamentals and
the operating relationship between the plant equipment in a diesel power plant
and covers the craft labor for the assembly and field erection required to put the
equipment into operation in a diesel power plant.
7.1.1 Diesel power plant
The diesel power plant is an electric installation equipped with one or several
electric current generators driven by diesel engines. Stationary diesel power
plants use four-stroke diesel engines. Diesel power plants are classed as average
in their power rating if the rating does not exceed 750KW; large diesel power
plants can have a power rating of 2200kW or more. The advantages of a diesel
power plant are favorable economy of operation, stable operation characteris-
tics, and an easy and quick start-up.
